I must say it surprises me how you can write about British 'experimental' literature without mentioning the most consistent and productive writer coming out of that Sixties movement, Gabriel Josipovici. He is still producing exceptional work and yet you mention only Ansgar Allen, Paul Griffiths and Rosalind Belben (two of whom at least are great admirers of his work)!

One reason why the UK has a poor recent history with (what I prefer to call) formally adventurous writing is that it is published by small, independent presses who do not get much attention as a result, whereas in the US there are bigger outfits, like Dalkey Archive. This is exacerbated by the inbred philistinism of the book-page journalists of English newspapers. It's a shame you haven't given him any coverage.

Although expensive to get hold of now, Josipovici features in Giles Gordon's book 'Beyond the Words' from the mid-70s offers selections and discussions from all of those you mention and including Josipovici. However, he has been vocal about his opposition to the term 'experimental', from an essay in 'The Mirror of Criticism' in 1983 to an interview in Fallow Magazine last month, so you may not find him to your taste. You're right, I should have mentioned him among those still producing adventurous fiction. Darlington doesn't include him in his book, but he is an important current writer.
