This blog has been around for a pretty long time now, and, together with the essays and reviews I have published in other venues, I have accumulated a sizable number of reviews, critical readings, and essays over this time. In an effort to make as many of these visible to potentially interested readers as possible (readers who didn't see some or all of these pieces previously, or might have an interest in particular writers, books, or critical discussions), I have reconfigured and rearranged the sidebar items that link to them. I have arranged them into reviews (medium length and longer) of particular books, long-ish critical readings of the work at large of various writers, and essays (some of them pretty long) on literary and academic subjects of concern to me. (Some of the essays contain autobiographical reflections, but writing about my own personal experience exclusively is not something for which I have much competence.) They are listed in more or less reverse chronological order, so as not to seem preoccupied with books or subjects that no longer have as much currency.
There are few items that extend farther back than around 2008 or so. Before that, most of the posts on this blog, though they were often rather longer than most of what was featured on literary blogs at that time, tended to be of the more informal kind discussing literary issues of the day and providing links to interesting articles in mainstream publications or to other literary bloggers. Those posts are still available in the archives, although no doubt most of those are of less interest to anyone reading blogs today. Most of what I have written for the blog (or elsewhere online) that still seems to me to have some substance is now immediately available through these links.
(There are also links to my Substack review publication, Unbeaten Paths, and to a collection of reviews of solely experimental fiction.)
